Hello!
I'm Makiko, a designer at KARAKU by me.
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the GLAM exhibition featuring Tetsuko Kuroyanagi at Sogo Museum in Yokohama.

Tetsuko Kuroyanagi is a highly respected Japanese actress, TV host, and author. She is best known for hosting "Tetsuko's Room," a popular talk show that has been on air since 1976, making her one of the longest-running TV hosts in Japan. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has contributed greatly to charity and social causes. Her autobiography, "Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window," is a best-seller and loved by people of all ages. Kuroyanagi is recognized for her unique hairstyle, energetic personality, and her commitment to promoting peace and understanding.

I follow Tetsuko on Instagram and YouTube, and I find her unique fashion sense and her energetic activities even at her age truly inspiring.
Curious, I looked up her age — she's 91 years old!
Knowing that such an iconic figure is holding an exhibition right here in Yokohama made me so happy.
The exhibition showcased her incredible wardrobe from various TV shows and stage performances, photos and outfits from her time studying in New York, as well as her collection of dishes and small accessories gathered out of hobbies.
One of my favorite pieces was a photo from the 1970s Easter Parade in New York.
It’s been a dream of mine to recreate that shot someday — maybe I’ll try it myself! (laughs)
There was also a stunning remade kimono costume.
At KARAKU by me, we also repurpose kimonos into hair accessories, so I’d love for Tetsuko to wear one someday!
The embroidery by Keiji Tagawa, an haute couture embroidery designer, was breathtaking.
His delicate handwork is truly admirable — I was in awe.
That particular costume was my favorite.
And the hat — so adorable!
Apparently, the shoes are purchased as display pieces rather than for walking.
I ended up getting so immersed in Tetsuko’s world that I bought quite a few goods from the exhibition! (laughs)
Like her, I want to keep dressing charmingly and expressing myself freely, no matter how old I get.
Thanks for reading!
